SCGA’s Beau Hossler set to team up with Jordan Spieth

January 25, 2016

SCGA's own Beau Hossler, who won back-to-back SCGA Amateur Championships in 2013 and 2014, is set to team up with Jordan Spieth at the Northern Trust Open Collegiate Showcase presented by Sands Cares next month. The duo will represent the University of Texas team at the showcase, being held Monday, Feb. 15, kicking off an exciting tournament week at The Riviera CC in Pacific Palisades. Fourteen collegiate golfers from across the country will represent their respective universities while playing alongside top PGA TOUR pros, with the winning collegian earning a spot in that week's Tournament.

World No. 1 Spieth, who recently announced his commitment to the Northern Trust Open for the fourth time in his career, has added his name to an impressive list of PGA TOUR players supporting their alma maters via the Northern Trust Open Collegiate Showcase. Jim Furyk, Paul Casey, Jimmy Walker, Luke Donald and J.B. Holmes are among the other top names committed to the competition.

The professional and two amateurs (not the collegian) will team up in a best-ball competition and compete for the Collegiate Showcase presented by Sands Cares Trophy, which earns the university’s golf program a donation of $50,000. Each collegian in the group will play his own ball, with the low medalist earning a coveted spot in the 2016 Northern Trust Open. Hossler, currently a junior with two collegiate victories under his belt, will look to earn a spot in his first PGA TOUR event. The 20 year old has competed in two U.S. Opens, including a memorable T29 finish in 2012.

Tickets for the Monday Collegiate Pro-Am Showcase are $19 and available via NorthernTrustOpen.com or at the gate, and anyone under the age of 18 can attend free of charge. Free parking for the day is available at Paul Revere Middle School (1450 Allenford Avenue). Gates will be open 7:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. and limited concessions will be available; photos are permitted and the autograph area will be open. All proceeds from Northern Trust Open Collegiate Showcase will benefit the Northern Trust Open’s official charity partner, City of Hope.

Wake Forest University’s Will Zalatoris shot a 67 (-4) in the inaugural Northern Trust Open Collegiate Showcase, the low score of the 14 collegians in the field, last year. Zalatoris, who is back to defend his title – this time with Wake Forest alum Kyle Reifers – finished five strokes ahead of Arizona’s George Cunningham (72) and was the only player to break par at The Riviera CC. He earned his first start in a PGA TOUR event, carding rounds of 76-71 to miss the cut.
