Assistant Director, Communications

As the Assistant Director of Communications, Julia Pine is focused on developing and implementing a broad based communications program, including media relations, issues management and internal and external efforts to support the SCGA’s business goals and objectives.

She also supports membership initiatives, creates and executes internal communications programs and manages the employee intranet site and Association's social media presence. Pine leads department efforts to produce the SCGA’s primary print publication FORE magazine, an award-winning quarterly membership magazine and its digital-only monthly supplement, plusFORE. In producing these publications, she manages freelance writers and photographers, leads editorial board meetings and manages all vendor relationships. In 2015, she was named the Cass Colbourne Media Person of the Year by the San Diego Chapter of the SCPGA. Pine also oversees the management and content of scga.org.

As the leader of the SCGA’s Employee Advisory Committee, she guides the team to identify, formulate and submit ideas to the Leadership Team to enhance SCGA staff experience. She previously managed the association’s Change Process Team, ensuring growth initiatives were effectively integrated into the SCGA’s culture.

Prior to joining the SCGA, Pine served as a managing editor for the news and sports section of The Los Angeles Loyolan, Loyola Marymount University’s bi-weekly campus newspaper, where she collaboratively wrote board editorials with editor-in-chief and co-managing editor and established and maintained a social media presence for the sports section. Prior to that position, she spent two years as the newspaper’s sports editor, covering the men’s basketball and softball teams and writing a weekly sports column.

Julia Pine received a B.A. in English with minors in Journalism and Ethical Studies from Loyola Marymount and has earned numerous awards and certificates including a certificate of merit at the 2010 Golden Circle Awards, a first place award by the California College Media Association for having the best sports page design and two LMU Writing Awards for best news story and best feature story.
