Cantlay picks up first professional victory

2011 SCGA Player of the Year Cantlay becomes web.com Tour's second-youngest winner
It's always nice to get the first one under your belt.
Patrick Cantlay, who exploded onto the scene a couple of years ago with a number of impressive finishes at PGA TOUR events as an amateur, won his first professional event Sunday, cruising to a four-stroke victory at the web.com Tour's Colombia Championship.
“It feels really good to win. I felt in control all day,” said the former UCLA All-America and 2011 SCGA Amateur Champion. “This sets the year off on the right foot. Even though I’m one of the youngest guys out here I feel really comfortable out here.”
In addition to becoming the second-youngest winner in the Tour's history, Cantlay also picks up $126,000 and takes over the No. 1 spot on the money list.
Cantlay finished the tournament strong, posting the event's lowest Saturday round with a 65 and lowest Sunday round with a 66. He concluded the championship at 18-under par.
“I putted really well this week,” said Cantlay. “I feel really good on these greens. My speed was pretty good all week but especially the last two days.”
“Winning is why we compete. That’s why we play,” he continued. “I just love competing. It doesn’t feel too soon, it’s been a while since I won.”
2012 SCGA Amateur Champion Bhavik Patel, who led the event early on, finished in sixth place, eight strokes behind fellow-Californian Cantlay.
