Peterson and Esquibel win second Championship
The final round of the 24th SCGA Affiliate Team Championship concluded today at La Purisima GC in Lompoc on what was a cool, overcast and misty morning. By day’s end the sun had burned off the clouds overhead and a Champion was crowned from one of the three Burgermaster’s Golf Clubs playing in the event. Taking home their second SCGA Affiliate Team Championship in the past three years was the team of Andrew Peterson and Gloribella Esquibel, who rallied with a Net 64 in today’s Pinehurst format. When asked what the keys to their success during the second round was, they replied, “We played very well today, and enjoy this format. The key is to keep the ball in play and in the fairway.”
The two were also able to make some big putts today that enabled them to go low. They started the day in a tie for 10th place and blew by the rest of their competition finishing at 12 under par for the tournament and 1 shot ahead of the nearest competitors, Ray Zuchowski and Fred Kisiel from the T.V.M.C. GC, who earned second place with a score of 133 (11 under par) for 36 holes. Finishing in third place was the duo of Daniel Way from Cubic GC and Ray Willenberg Jr. from the Hookers & Slicers GC with a two day score of 135 (9 under par).
Fourth place was awarded to the team from the Orange Coast Golf Association, Frank & Tina Schmidt. Fifth place went to the Southland Golfers GC, John Alderson and Dan Concepcion. Both then teams finished at 138 (6 under par). The tie for 4th & 5th place was broken by using the USGA method of matching score cards which edged the Schmidt’s over Alderson and Concepcion.
