The Women’s Team Play Championship is the final match of the Team Play Playoffs.
Women’s Team Play is open to SCGA member clubs maintaining at least one 18-hole golf course of at least 3,000 yards in length. Participating clubs may enter up to two 12-person teams. Clubs are arranged into groups of four, and their respective 12-person teams play a series of six home and away matches within their assigned group. All competitions play four-ball net match play. Group winners then meet in single elimination play-offs, culminating in an 18-hole championship.
After several months of heated competition, the 2022 Women's Team Play season came to a close on Sunday as MountainGate CC notched its second championship in four years.
After strong regular seasons showings, each club emerged as the top team within their group to advance to the postseason, where what started as 28 teams was stripped down to eight vying for a title.
MountainGate CC, who won the 2019 championship, and North Ranch CC battled their way to the championship match at Rancho Bernardo Inn in San Diego, Calif. Playing four-ball matches to decide who would hoist the trophy, MountainGate CC won four of the six matches to be crowned the eventual champion and win by a score of 8-4.
