There are so many choices in today’s golf equipment world that it is often confusing on which club to buy. With all the new technology and the plethora of advertising companies try to make sure that you understand exactly what the club does for you, but it’s still tough to grasp the focal points. This guide will help you understand what to believe and not to believe when it comes to golf clubs
Adjustable Drivers
The adjustable driver is the new standard for the golf industry today. But how does it really work? They say that you can simply take out your tool and adjust the club head to change loft and lie angle and even different weights. The truth is that if you change the loft of a driver it only stays that way if you hold the face at a certain angle. In other words, you have to maintain that degree of loft yourself. The driver won’t simply change to the new loft if you sit it on the ground itself.
When looking at adjustable drivers the most important factor is face angle because it directly impacts the direction of your ball flight.
Wedge Grinds
There are so many different wedge grinds out there today that it can be confusing to pick the right one for your game. Tour grind sole designs are all the rage and everyone says those are only for better players and professionals. That is FALSE. Tour grinds can benefit every type of player, even a beginner.
The reason is because the more radius on the sole from face to back, the less area of the sole comes in contact with the ground when the clubhead actually enters the ground during the shot. This is great for players who tend to hit behind the golf ball. It will help you make a descending blow on the ball without having to worry about hitting it fat.
Golf Shafts of Today are Better than Years Past
Everyone talks about their new shaft they have in the driver and how it’s so much better than what they had last year, but the truth is, it’s the same thing. The only change in the shaft is on the outside. With the technology available to manufacturer’s, they are able to produce shafts to tighter specifications that in the past, but the quality is the same.
An important aspect of golf shafts to remember is called the “bend profile”, which tells you the stiffness of the shaft from the tip to the butt. Many of the shafts produced today have the exact same bend profile of shafts produced in the past, but they are simply rebranded because they work so well. Don’t be fooled into paying $300 or $400 for a shaft when you can buy one for $70 or $80 that is the same thing.
Only Good Golfers Should Get Fitted
It is so easy to walk into a store and buy a set of clubs today without even hitting them. This is the worst thing you can do for your game. Every player needs to get fitted no matter if you just started to play or if you have been playing for 30 years. Having a set of clubs that is custom fit to your swing will literally make you a better player. It will takes strokes off of your score and make the entire golf experience more enjoyable.
There are a couple of ways to get fit for a set of clubs. One of them is to find a golf course that offers club fitting from a certified club fitter or you can go directly to a manufacturer to get their in depth fitting process. I wouldn’t recommend getting fit inside a store because they can’t really see your ball flight, but that is another option.
Longer Drivers are Better
This is a big issue I have with golf club manufacturers who always say that longer drivers are better for the average golfer. This is FALSE. A longer club will typically promote off-center hits, thus taking away the advantage you would have with a longer club. A normal length driver is more beneficial to you because hitting the center of the club face is easier and that’s where you get your distance.
A longer club may give you a higher swing speed, but it won’t give you the distance to match if you can’t hit the ball on the center of the club face.
Make sure you research golf clubs before you buy. Hope this guide helps you to play better golf!
