Golf can be intimidating at first glance, but there are plenty of ways to begin playing the game we all love. The Southern California Golf Association (SCGA) has plenty of ways to get involved for beginners and one of them is to become an SCGA member. As a member of the SCGA you will get benefits that can help your golf game.
Benefits of Becoming a SCGA Member
Once you are a member you will gain access to an SCGA/USGA handicap where you can record your scores and track how well you are playing. Having a handicap is a requirement to enter most tournaments and the SCGA will track it for you once you sign up. The SCGA provides its members with golf outings where you can play premier SoCal courses for discounted rates, while meeting other members.
To go along with member outings, the SCGA hosts over 150 tournament days throughout the year so you can feed your competitive side. Some of these events include qualifying opportunities for USGA events, such as the U.S. Open and the U.S. Amatuer.
Being an SCGA Member will also grant you access to lower green fees each month, with added discounts when you book your round on SCGA.com. All members will also receive subscriptions to FORE magazine, a premier lifestyle magazine on golf in Southern California and plusFORE, which is the digital companion to FORE.
The SCGA also partners with other golf associations to give you bigger discounts if you are traveling. Other allied golf associations include the Northern California Golf Association, the Oregon Golf Association and The Home Course at the Washington State Golf Association.
The SCGA has launched a new mobile app that gives you instant access to post scores, lookup golf courses, check handicaps and check any rules of golf questions. Along with the new mobile app, you can form your own Golf Club with friends to make your golf experiences better. You can choose who is in your club and it makes for a fun way to track your golf competitions.
SCGA Junior Club
The SCGA also offers a junior membership, which is available to all golfers under the age of 18. A junior membership provides access to special golf outings and educational events as well as eligibility to college scholarships. Many green and range fees are only $1-$5 at many Southern California golf facilities with a junior membership.
The new Drive, Chip and Putt Championship is also hosted by the SCGA and you can compete for a chance to go to Augusta National each year for the championships.
SCGA Loyalty Program
The SCGA has also created a loyalty program to help keep you engaged.
Every time you comment on a page, watch a video, volunteer your time, play in an event and simply log into your SCGA Member Account, you’ll earn points. These points can add up to specific badges, outlined below. Some badges have more than one level. Points are also calculated towards special savings at the SCGA Store.
It is a great time to get involved in the game of golf and the SCGA can help make that experience even more enjoyable.
