Meet John DeGomez

Assistant Director

John joins the SCGA Junior Golf Foundation team as the Player and Youth Development Program Manager in the Southeast LA community. John oversees all program operations and administration at Don Knabe GC, Los Amigos GC and Pico Rivera GC, as well as continuing outreach for further expansion in the community.

John works closely with the golf instructors to manage coaches, support programming, host community events and develop new ways to bring golf to even more kids.

John previously worked at the LA84 Foundation where he managed all on-site events and facility rentals while coordinating across departments in marketing and partnerships, grants and programs and education services.

With an extensive sports background, John is excited to be working in a sport that he has recently fallen in love with. Prior to golf, John spent his childhood playing baseball and soccer and spent two years playing collegiate baseball at Glendale College before finishing his playing career at Washington Adventist University in Maryland.

What’s at the top of your golf bucket list?

To shoot even par. A guy can dream can’t he…

Favorite golf course you’ve played?

The Los Angeles CC (North)

What are you most excited about in this role?

I’m most looking forward to getting to know all the kids and families that are a part of the community that we serve. Building relationships is really what it’s all about. When you’re out there working directly with the kids, it’s so much easier to serve as a role model for them. I’ve been coaching youth baseball for over five years, and I’ve come to realize that the best life lessons come from the playing field and competition.
