Duo of Robbie Foster/Jeff Fortson wins second SCGA title
In the 2nd SCGA Stableford Team Championship, the duo of Coachella Valley residents Robbie Foster and Jeff Fortson came from behind to win the event, which was held at Westin Mission Hills Resort (Pete Dye/Gary Player). After an opening round of 62, which put them in a tie for sixth place, Foster and Fortson came back in Round 2 to earn an impressive 90 points, jumping ahead of the rest of the field and earning a 1-point victory.
Finishing in second place was the team of Roy Kim and Cameron Tennant, who held the Round 1 lead after an opening-day 81, and Brandon Gandy/Tyler Hurst. The two teams would finish at 151, one point behind the champs. Matching Foster and Fortson for the best round of the tournament was the pairing of SCGA Senior Player of the Year John Pate and his partner Jeff Wilson, who also earned 90 points in the second round to finish in fifth place.
The SCGA Stableford Team Championship awards teams points on each hole on their score relative to par. Both players balls are in play, and the two scores on each hole are added together for the final team score on that hole.
For Foster and Fortson, the win was their second as a pair in an SCGA championship, having won the 2015 SCGA Foursomes at Bear Creek GC. Last year's winners Tim Hogarth and Corby Segal turned in round of 70 and 71 to finish sixth.
