Affiliate Team Championship

Oct. 16-17, 2017 at Temecula Creek Inn (Oaks/Stonehouse)

This event is open to two-person teams, with both players being members of a SCGA Affiliate Club, and each having an active handicap index. Members with handicap indexes greater than 18.4 will play to a 18.4 for the championship. The format for the event is Four-Ball Net stroke play for Round 1 and Pinehurst (Modified Chapman) for Round Day 2. In the Pinehurst format, each partner drives from each tee then plays the second shot with the other’s ball. After the second shot, the team chooses which ball it will use to complete the hole, hitting alternate shots. Handicap is deducted from the team score at the end of the round.

The final round of the 29th SCGA Affiliate Team Championship concluded Tuesday at Monarch Beach GL in Dana Point. After a first round low score of 64 in the Four-Ball format, coupled with an equally impressive 65 in the Pinehurst format, the team of Michael Armendariz and Jason Rourk of the Mickey Mouse Golf League combined for a score of 129 to give the duo their first SCGA Affiliate Team Championship title.

After a middling 68 on day one, Robert Mapstead and Chris Leonard of the Orange County Fire Dept. fired a tournament-low 62 in the Pinehurst format, earning a second place finish. The pair of Rick Elliott (Nomads Golf Club) and John Donnelly (Torrey Pines Men's GC) showed consistency in shooting 65 on day one, followed by a 66 on day two for a third-place finish.

This 36-hole Championship is one of the more unique competitions the SCGA offers, incorporating two distinctly different formats and hosting players of varying abilities. The SCGA Affiliate Team Championship is open to two-person teams, with both players being members of an SCGA Affiliate Club (not necessarily the same club), and each having active current Handicap Indexes as of the date of registration.
