RESULTS AND PAIRINGS

BAKERSFIELD – Reigning California Amateur Champion Bhavik Patel (pictured) and his partner Manuv Shah fired an opening round 62 to take a two-stroke lead over 2011 SCGA Foursomes champions Mark Miller and Dan Sullivan at the 20th Annual SCGA Four-Ball Championship at Bakersfield CC.

Patel, a senior at Fresno State, and Shah, a redshirt sophomore at UCLA, blistered the 6,820 yard layout with 10 birdies and no bogeys.  After making the turn with a four-under 32, the young Bakersfield duo birdied the short par 5 11th and then rattled off birdies on holes 13 through 16.  Patel, who shot 66 on his own ball, birdied the final hole to complete the round of 62.

Sitting two back are Miller and Sullivan, who had six birdies, no bogeys and one eagle on the difficult par-5 2nd hole to complete their round of 64.  Eight teams are within six strokes of the lead including the team of 2011 SCGA Mid-Amateur Champion Scott Almquist and multiple SCGA champion Tim Hogarth.
