2013 SCGA Senior Four-Ball Net Championship

Held at Barona Creek GC

This event is open to two-person teams. All players must be age 50 and above but all skill levels are welcome. Players do not need to belong to the same SCGA club. The championship is a 36-hole event, there is no qualifying as all entries are on a first come, first served basis.

With a two-day net total of 124, Joseph Genchi of Wood Ranch GC and Jess Stevenson of W. Valley Northrop Grumman GC shot 13-under par in the second round to earn the 10th annual SCGA Senior Four-Ball Net title. Three teams led after day one of the event with a net 61 but were unable to stay in control during round two, with only the team of Steve Gupta of La Canada-Flintridge CC and Sanjiv Verma of Spanish Hills Golf & CC remaining in the top 5 with a two-day total of 128.

In route to their three-stroke victory over Robert Cobabe of Los Verdes Mens GC and Scott Sakamoto of South Bay Pub Links GC, the champions carded three eagles, nine birdies and only two bogeys. After a net 27 on the front nine, the Genchi/Stevenson duo ran away with the win, passing Cobabe and Sakamoto on the fourth hole and continuing to increase their lead through the back nine, finishing with a net 59.

Forty teams participated in the 2013 SCGA Senior Four-Ball Net Championship at Barona Creek GC. The 36-hole net competition is played over two days as a two-person better ball format, where the team’s best net score is used for each hole.
