MURRIETA, CALIF., April 28 -- Red Hill CC of Rancho Cucamonga raced away to an early lead at The SCGA Golf Course and then held on to defeat Balboa Park GC of San Diego, 25-23, to win the Saturday division of the 107th Southern California Golf Association (SCGA) Team Play.

Red Hill, which won the Thursday division two years ago, saw its first and third groupings today sweep their individual and four-ball matches and after three matches, Red Hill held a 14-4 lead.  However, Balboa Park, which had won three Saturday titles during the 1990s, battled back only to fall two points short.  In the match play format, match winners earn 2 points and halved matches earn 1 point each.

Eight of the 24 matches went to the 18th hole, with Red Hill winning three, Balboa Park two, and three matches finishing all square.  Overall, Red Hill – which gave away 37 handicap strokes, won the singles matches, 19-13, while Balboa Park won the four-ball matches 10-6.

After winning its group this season, Red Hill defeated Industry Hills GC and Eagle GC to reach the semifinals where it ousted Las Posas CC.  Balboa Park defeated Vista Valley CC, Encinitas Ranch GC and Morgan Run Resort to reach the semifinals where it eliminated El Dorado Park GC.
