After four weeks of play the 2012 SCGA Scratch League Playoffs will commence at Industry Hills GC Babe Zaharias Course on Thursday. The SCGA Scratch League was created to build camaraderie and competition between low handicap players and golf club professionals at SCGA Type 1 golf clubs. Teams are composed of six players (one club professional and five amateurs) and the format is a unique point game in which each team member plays stroke play and accumulating points within their pairing group based on the score for each hole. All play is without handicaps except for seeding the pairing order from low current handicap index to high index.
Thirty-four teams competed during the regular season, with nine group winners advancing to the Southern California Playoffs. Defending California Scratch League Champion Bear Creek GC has once again put themselves in position to go after another state title. Led by former SCGA Mid-Amateur Champion Robert Funk (pictured), Bear Creek will attempt to get back to the Final this Thursday at Industry Hills.
Two separate playoff matches will take place, with the high-scoring team in each match advancing to the California Scratch League Finals at Valencia CC on Dec. 17.
Playoff Group No. 1 consists of Saticoy, Shady Canyon, Bear Creek and Bel-Air playing the 16 point game. The winner of this group will advance to the Cal Scratch League Finals.
