I know of a way to promote pace of play—but is there a golf course willing to execute the idea, and is the SCGA willing to support the effort?  Call it Twosome Tuesday.  As a test program, a course should introduce Twosome Tuesday for one month.  Twosomes only; no threesomes or foursomes.  Tee times with a 10-minute gap can now be cut to five minutes.  Same amount of players on the course.  Pace of play will improve dramatically.  Come on, SCGA!  Persuade a course to step up and set the pace!!

I agree with the pledge and signed it but it is not really going to speed up my pace if I a following a group of 5 players and they all can’t play or are barely learning how to play. I am sure a lot of you know what I am talking about! Some ground rules should be laid out by golf course managers such as a maximum of 4 players per group, appropriate staggered tee times, players should stick to a double-bogey maximum per hole - I often see golfers hit more then five strokes on a par 3 hole and so on. If players reach their double-bogey strokes, they should pick up the ball and score the double-bogey. Walkers, I know some golfers do it for the leisure part but they should realize that if the golf course if busy they should walk faster period.

Is there a link from my SCGA home page to the “Pace of Play Pledge”? If so I can’t find it. If not, create one, more people will sign up.

I agree with the Pace of Play pledge.  I try to play as fast as possible without interfering with other people in my group.  I also want to say that it also helps if/when the course marshals and the starters are doing their job and informing people about the current length of the round.  The marshals should also let groups know when they are playing slow and if they need to pick up the pace.

I agree the faster pace of play the more enjoyable the round is even if you’re not playing your best.
