2009 SCGA Points Program Overview
The SCGA points program recognizes golfers who give strong performances in SCGA, CGA, USGA and other selected outside tournaments. The cumulative Points List provides us with a Player of the Year and Senior Player of the Year (age 55 and above), both of whom will be recognized at the year-end, SCGA Annual Meeting.
The 2009 standings can be viewed in their entirety under the Points List link. By clicking on a player’s name, one can also view their entire year’s résumé, including events they’ve participated in, points they’ve earned, and even some of their scorecards.
2009 SCGA Points Year
The 2009 SCGA points year is October 24, 2008 – October 23, 2009.
Eligibility
In order to earn SCGA points, contestants must be amateur golfers who are members of the SCGA at the time of the event in which they accrued points. The USGA’s definition of an amateur golfer is the standard of the SCGA. Players suspended from SCGA competitions are not eligible to earn points. Players must also have an established Bluegolf account to which the points can be credited. To create a Bluegolf account, please click Here.
NOTE: In order to become the Player of the Year or Senior Player of the Year, one must compete in, or attempt to qualify for, at least one of the following events: SCGA Amateur Championship, CGA Amateur Championship, SCGA Mid-Amateur Championship, SCGA Senior Amateur Championship, or CGA Senior Amateur Championship.
Age Divisions
An SCGA “Regular Player” is an eligible player 54 years of age or younger. An SCGA “Senior Player” is an eligible player 55 years of age or older. To earn points in a “Senior Event”, players must have reached their 55th birthday prior to the start of the competition. Players 54 years of age or younger who compete in a “Senior Event” will not earn points on either the regular or senior points lists.
- If a “Senior Player” earns points for an event that is only recognized on the Regular Player of the Year list, those points will be applied to his senior standings.
- Exception: Points earned in any stage of the U.S. Senior Open by a player who is 50 – 54 will be credited to the regular Player of the Year standings.
2009 Points Distribution
Players can earn points through strong performances in events listed on the Points Distribution Lists. The links below will provide a complete listing of these tournaments and the point values assigned to each event.

- In the event of ties, each player will earn the maximum points possible. For example, if two players tied for 2nd place at the SCGA Amateur, each player would earn 395 points, the maximum number of points for that position—they would not split the total of 2nd and 3rd place points.
- In match play events, players can earn points for qualifying for the championship and for the highest round of match play they reach.
(To submit your outside event for SCGA Points consideration,
you must contact the SCGA Rules and Competitions Department.)
2009 Match Play Points List
Running concurrently with the Player of the Year and Senior Player of the Year Points Lists will be a 2009 Match Play Points List and a 2009 Senior Match Play Points List. These lists represent the cumulative totals of the 2008 Player of the Year and Senior Player of the Year races plus the current 2009 Player of the Year and Senior Player of the Year lists. At the conclusion of the 2009 SCGA Amateur Championship (July 17 – 19, Wilshire CC), the top 32 players on the 2009 Match Play Points List plus the top 16 Players on the 2009 Senior Match Play Points List will earn invitations to compete in the SCGA Match Play Championship, to be played August 10 – 12, 2009 at Sandpiper Golf Course in Goleta.
- In the event of a tie for any place on the Match Play Points List, the tie shall be broken based on performance in the 2009 SCGA Amateur Championship. If a tie still exists we will look at performance in the 2009 CGA Amateur Championship, followed by the 2009 SCGA Mid-Amateur Championship, followed by a sporting draw.
- In the event of a tie for any place on the Senior Match Play Points List, the tie shall be broken based on performance in the 2009 SCGA Senior Amateur Championship. If a tie still exists we will look at performance in the 2008 CGA Senior Amateur Championship, followed by the 2008 SCGA Senior Amateur Championship, followed by a sporting draw.
Other Exemptions and Team Selection Criteria
The SCGA Points List will also be a tool used to assist in the selection of participants for the Honors Matches (a competition between the SCGA and SCPGA) and the Seaver Cup (a competition between the SCGA and the NCGA).
Good luck in your quest to become the SCGA Player of the Year!
