November 18, 2015

Kevin Heaney, the Southern California Golf Association’s executive director, was elected president of the International Association of Golf Administrators (IAGA) last week at the Association’s Annual Meeting in Monterey, Calif. Heaney becomes the 44th president of the IAGA, which was formed in 1968 to promote and conserve the best interests in the game of golf. The IAGA represents close to three million golfers through state and regional golf associations primarily in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

“It’s an exciting time,” said Heaney, who is the third individual from the SCGA to serve in this role, during his acceptance speech. “There is a great opportunity for growth in the game but we need to think big, be bold and embrace change.”

As executive director of the SCGA, Heaney leads one of the nation’s largest and oldest state/regional amateur golf associations, with roughly 150,000 members and 1,200 member clubs throughout Southern California and Baja California. Heaney has served as executive director since 2006, after serving three years as assistant executive director. His previous positions with the SCGA also include director of rules & competition, and director of course rating.

In addition to his work with the SCGA, Heaney is also a member of the USGA Regional Association Committee, serves as vice president of the California Alliance for Golf, sits on the advisory boards of the Southern California Section of the PGA and the Los Angeles Sports and Entertainment Commission and is a member of the U.C Riverside Chancellor’s Advisory Council for Agriculture.

Prior to joining the SCGA, Heaney worked in marketing, sales and broadcasting. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California, Davis in Agricultural Economics and Managerial Science, as well as a Master of Business Administration degree from the same university.
