Keenan Barber elected president of the SCGA

UNIVERSAL CITY, CALIF. (Oct. 25, 2016) - Keenan Barber, a retired cardiologist and member of Mission Hills Country Club, was elected president of the Southern California Golf Association at its Annual Meeting, held Tuesday morning in Universal City. He succeeds St. Mark Golf Club member John Morello.

"The SCGA is moving in a very positive direction. We know there are challenges in golf but because of the people in this room, we're in great hands," said Barber. "It's my honor and privilege to be in this position. I'll embrace this role."

Joining the SCGA Executive Committee are Vice President Jon Bilger of La Jolla Country Club, Secretary Chris Wilson of Lakeside Golf Club and Treasurer Fred MacFarlane of Industry Hills Golf Club.

Honored at the Annual Meeting were:

- Ed Holmes of Victoria Club, who received the Lynn Smith Award, which honors outstanding contributors and service to amateur golf in Southern California.

- Taylor Woodward of La Cumbre Country Club, who received the Jim House Award, which recognizes the work of an exceptional SCGA volunteer.

- Kim Campos of SC Maga Vista CA Chapter, who was named the winner of the Newell Pinch Delegate Award for her service working as an SCGA ambassador.

- Linda Warson of PGA WEST, who was awarded the Don Carlson Award for her accomplishments as the Handicap Chair of PGA WEST.

- Jean Duff received the John Argue Founder's Award, established to honor SCGA Junior Founder and former SCGA President John C. Argue. Jean's late husband Jim was an SCGA Board Member and upon his passing, made a gift for SCGA Junior scholarship endowment. The foundation now names a Jim Duff scholar every year.

- Sandy Wilk was honored with the President's Award, annually given to an SCGA member or member club who's dedicated to furthering the mission of SCGA Junior.

Dan Sullivan earned the SCGA Player of Year award, an honor he receives for the second time in his decorated career. His 2016 season included a semi-finals appearance at the U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship, a runner-up finish at the SCGA Public Links Championship and a first-place finish at the Pasadena City Championship.

"I love playing in SCGA events," said Sullivan. "We're all very fortunate to have the chance to play in this association's championships. They're just the best."

Jeff Burda was recognized as the SCGA Senior Player of the Year, an honor he also received in 2011.
