October 25, 2011 - Dennis Harwood (pictured right) of Big Canyon CC, who has been an avid golfer for more than 60 years, was elected the SCGA’s new president at the Annual Meeting, held Tuesday morning in Universal City.

Harwood, a retired attorney and business consultant who will serve the SCGA over the coming year, succeeds Steve Titus (pictured left) of San Gabriel CC.

“I look forward to serving this exceptional organization as president,” Harwood said of the SCGA. “We are recognized on a national basis for having the top golf administrators in the business. It is also difficult to imagine a region with more diverse types of courses to pursue our passion than Southern California – from oceanfront courses to desert courses, from mountain courses to parkland courses.”

Joining Harwood on the SCGA Executive Committee are Dr. Tom Lindgren of The Palms GC and San Diego CC, vice president; Ken Bien of Rancho Santa Fe GC, secretary; and Al Frank of Oakmont CC, treasurer.

Several SCGA members were honored for their service at the Annual Meeting:

• Bob Wright of Rancho Cucamonga received the Jim House Award, which recognizes the work of an exceptional SCGA volunteer. Click here to see a list of past winners.

• Bill Woolfolk of Los Angeles was given the Don Carlson Award for his accomplishments as the handicap chair of Bel-Air CC.

• Don Emerson of Rancho Mirage was named the winner of the inaugural Newell Pinch Delegate of the Year Award for his liaison work between his Mission Hills CC and the SCGA.
