Meet The Participants

Scott Aguilar -  I am a first time golf marathoner, a Registered Nurse, TV/Film Medical Advisor, Gastro-Tourist, and a Bacon Aficionaro. As a Disabled Veteran, golf gets me up and out for some fresh air and sunshine on a regular basis.  Enter AGUILAR to support his marathon efforts.
Blake Alban - Blake grew up playing golf in the Southern California Junior Golf Association and the American Junior Golf Association.  He did his undergraduate education at Yale University where he played on the Varsity Golf Team. He has been fortunate to play golf while traveling across the country and to Scotland, England, and Ireland.  Currently, he plays out of Hillcrest CC with a Handicap of 5.  When he is not on the golf course, he enjoys being a pediatrician at UCLA Medical Center.  He is back for his second time playing in the Marathon! Enter ALBAN to support his marathon efforts.

Dea Barnes - I've been a golf nut for about 15 years, averaging 5-7 rounds a week. I thought playing 100 holes would be a great challenge. I was fortunate enough to have played 54 holes one beautiful day last month. I didn't pick up the game till my mid 30's and enjoy playing with my 17-year-old daughter, who has been playing since she was 6. Looking forward to playing 100 hole in 1 day while raising money for a great program. Enter BARNES to support her marathon efforts.

Jimmy Becker - I returned to work for the SCGA in 2011 after a six-year stint at the Northern California Golf Association. As a former collegiate player at the University of Redlands, and by serving on the U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship Committee, I understand firsthand how important it is to give younger players the opportunity to play this great game. Kids are the future of the sport and they need every opportunity possible to have affordable access to play the game. Enter BECKER to support his marathon efforts.
Terry Black - Doing something to help the Foundation and the work it does is something we should all want to do. I participated in this event last year and enjoyed it very much.  I also enjoyed meeting and playing with some of the recipients of the Foundation.  It is my hope to have a few more supporters this year and raise more money. Enter BLACK to support his marathon efforts.
Bill Boatwright - I am the Handicap Chair at Woodley Lakes Men's Club and the SCGA Delegate. I love golf, but don't get to play as often as I'd like. I like the idea of having 100 chances to get closer to that elusive 'hole-in-one." I also truly want to help young people learn and enjoy the game as I think it's an important lesson and metaphor for life. Enter BOATWRIGHT to support his marathon efforts.
George Cabunag - First time joining a golf marathon.  My daughter is a beneficiary of this great Foundation and I'm looking forward to helping the SCGA make golf affordable for other kids.  Enter GCABUNAG to support his marathon efforts.
Samantha Cabunag - I am an avid golfer, eleven years old and in sixth grader, and want to meet new people that play golf. I just started playing in the Junior Development League, which I enjoy. I also enjoy facing the challenges of golf to help me improve my game. Most of my practice is with my dad. We practice in Rancho San Joaquin and then play in Casta Del Sol. I also love other sports such as vollayball and basketball. Enter CABUNAG to support Samantha’s marathon efforts.
Juan Carreno - I fell in love with golf in my late 20's watching professional golf tournaments on TV and decided to teach  myself how to play this wonderful game.  After a few rounds I soon realized I had formed some bad habits and decided to take lessons which turned my game around. I currently carry a 6 Handicap Index and play competively every chance I get. I have been blessed to play gems such as Pebble Beach, Poppy Hills, Torrey Pines, Palmilla and Cabo Del Sol in Mexico Baja California. I have run the L.A. Marathon to raise funds for the Lupus Foundation and looking forward to this type of marathon to help the SCGA Foundation, knowing that it will benefit a new generation of golfers. Enter CARRENO to support his marathon efforts.
Dylan Choi- Hi my name is Dylan Choi. I am a 6th grade student at Chandler Middle School. Enter CHOI to support his marathon efforts.
Jeff Cibull - I started playing golf by joining something similiar to the First Tee program when I was 11 years old.  It was a great experience, and I learned everything from swinging a golf club to proper etiquette on the course.  I have a nephew that is in the First Tee program and see the same joy he gets out of golf as I do.  I’m a returning Golf Marathon participant and hope that you’ll support my efforts! Enter CIBULL to support his marathon efforts.
Ken Coley - I am a native of San Diego and a supporter in many ways of helping our youth through golf programs. An avid golfer for the past 40 years, I am a long time member at two SCGA member Clubs. Jay Greenberg - I am excited to be a first time Marathoner raising money for the SCGA Foundation.  Presently, I teach 5th grade in Romoland, CA, and as a teacher I try to bring new and untried topics to my students. I first started playing golf when I was 25 years old and looking for a different sport to play.  When I started, I mostly played with the 'oldtimers,' those guys who hit the ball 150 to 200 perfectly straight up the fairway and don't look to be the big hitters.  It took awhile, but a lot of the lessons they tried to impart, I have finally started listening to many years later.
I believe that the game of golf has the ability to teach juniors, as well as the rest of us, patience, perseverance, and dedication. Enter GREENBERG to support his marathon efforts.

Lisa Grimm - Lisa was a once-avid golfer whose greatest expectation now is to make it through a round without injury to herself, other golfers or the windows of adjacent properties. Though many players have influenced her golf game, probably none has had greater impact than fellow marathon participant Mike Ortega. "If a guy can swing like that and still score, there's got to be hope for me!" she recently said. When she's not whining about the most recent 2-foot putt she missed, she can be found working as the Director of The First Tee of Los Angeles, volunteering at the Northern Trust Open or working with either the City and County Golf Advisory Committees. Enter GRIMM to support her marathon efforts.

Doug Heinrichs - My name is Doug and I'm excited to participate in this wonderful charity event! I'm hoping to raise a lot of money (as well as a few blisters) to benefit young golfers from all socio-economic backgrounds, and the SCGA Foundation will allow me to do just that. I'm a member of the Meadowlark Men's Club in Huntington Beach and I'll bet I can get all 200+ guys to chip in a few bucks just to see me get a sore back and shoot 50-100 over par in one day. For the kids I'm very happy to do it!  The SCGA has benefited my son Jesse, too. From an early age he's had the opportunity to play some of the finest golf courses in SoCal as a member of the SCGA. He's gone on to play for Marina High School and now he's going to play for Orange Coast Community College and I couldn't be more proud.

Make a pledge and you won't be sorry. It's for a great cause and here's a big "THANK YOU!!" in advance for your support! Enter HEINRICHS to support his marathon efforts.

He looks forward to playing 100 holes to help the Youth on Course program as he has a daughter in our program. Enter PHIL to support his marathon efforts.
Mike Rosenberg - As a board member of the SCGA Foundation, Mike has taken the lead on this event as the committee chair for the past three years.  He’s looking forward to playing another 100 holes of golf and having continued support from his family and friends. As far as golf goes, I’ve been a member of Golfers Haven (an SCGA affiliate club) and serve as its Club Delegate and Handicap Chair. When I was younger, much younger, I once walked 54 holes so going for 100 will certainly be a challenge. Despite the fact I’ve been an SCGA member since 1990, I never really knew how much they did and more important, how well they do it, for so many people.  Meeting Board member Mike Ortega and later Kevin Gigax really opened my eyes to the several opportunities we can have to participate. Let’s have some fun! Enter WONG in support of his pledge efforts.
