SCGA Communications

Delegate Program

Formed in 1994 the SCGA Club Delegate program allows for a direct line of communication between the SCGA and our member clubs. This program was initially directed at the golf course facilities but the success of both the delegate and affiliate programs necessitated the expansion to the affiliate clubs.

For each golf course facility that joins the SCGA we ask them appoint a delegate to their club. Each affiliate club with more than 50 members is also asked for a representative. The purpose of the delegate is to act as a conduit of information between the association and the member club. Each mailing that is sent out by the association, whether it is an educational opportunity or information from the handicap, course rating or tournament department, is then copied to the delegate. Packets are sent directly to the delegate’s home to ensure receipt of the materials. The delegates also provide a wealth of information for the association.

The person you nominate may be someone who is currently an SCGA committee member, although that is neither necessary nor even, perhaps, desirable, since one of the ancillary benefits of this program is to involve as many people as possible in SCGA activities. The person need not have served on your club’s board of directors, although you may find that to be of help in communicating your club’s needs and concerns to the SCGA.

In the late summer (August/September) we host regional delegate meetings. Meetings are arranged throughout Southern California so that we can provide a smaller arena for sharing and learning. Lunch and dinner meetings are offered to accommodate those that are unable to attend during the day due to work obligations. We discuss current issues with the association and provide a forum for individuals to network and gather a different perspective from similar clubs. For clubs in the Palm Springs/Palm Desert area we hold the regional meetings in January/February when people have returned for the winter.

In April we host a Club Delegate/Club President's Day. This allows an opportunity for the SCGA to say thank you to the delegates for their participation in the program. It also gives us an opportunity to show the club president’s how the program works and what the responsibilities of the delegates are. It is an opportunity to explain to the president’s the function of the SCGA and some of the services clubs can take advantage of.

If your club does not currently have a delegate or if you would like more information on the program please contact Emily von Doehren, Director of Member Services (800) 554-7242 or evondoehren@scga.org.
