The SCGA Foundation hosted an intimate dinner at the Bel-Air CC with special guest Rocco Mediate. The evening began with a chance for the more than 50 guests to spend time with the PGA Champion before a more structured part of the night began. Read more.

The SCGA Foundation hosted its annual golf tournament Monday at Mission Viejo CC, raising more than $120,000 for a variety of the organization’s programs. The day, which was presented by Callaway Golf, included golf for the tournament’s 96 participants and reception, which included guest speaker Mark O’Meara. Read more.
The SCGA Foundation’s G.A.M.E. Club hosted its first ever all-girls outing at Industry Hills GC . Seven G.A.M.E. Club members were paired with seven female Foundation supporters who served as mentors for the day. Read more.
Since it's creation in 1957, the George Von Elm Memorial Tournament has raised more than $25,000 to support junior golf in Southern California. This year's tournament, held last week, raised more than $5,000, a portion of which goes to the SCGA Foundation. Read more.
Charlie Sifford, who broke the PGA's color barrier in the early 1960s, had the opportunity Monday at Lakeside GC to speak with young men whose future he helped shape. In a speech given to the more than 90 attendees at the event, SCGA Foundation junior Trey Woods said, "Golf has changed my life dramatically," a statement that could not have been made without the determination and patience Sifford displayed decades ago. SCGA Foundation Executive Director Kevin Gigax spoke to representatives from First Tee chapters from Southern California and Arizona. The meeting was scheduled to revisit The First Tee’s Phase IV Business Plan (2011-2015), established to further The First Tee’s relevance as an established organization that impacts today’s youth. Forty-five couples joined the SCGA Foundation at Terranea Resort on Friday for the second annual Couples Golf Getaway. The couples enjoyed a 9-hole scramble on the #2 ranked par 3 course in the country (as rated by GOLF Magazine) and then spent the evening and next day enjoying the five-star resort which is part of the stay-and-play package. At Wilshire CC yesterday, 20 SCGA Foundation G.A.M.E. Club members spent the day with 20 Wilshire members and engaged in a day of networking and mentoring.

He then introduced members Hank Wasiak and Anne Bartholetti who both took the opportunity to speak to the juniors about their careers and the importance of mentors in their own lives.

Sixty juniors and four top amateurs gathered at San Gabriel CC Thursday for the SCGA Foundation’s Junior Golf Clinic. The juniors, who were from four different junior golf programs in Southern California, received instruction on driving, chipping and putting while participating in challenges along the way to pick up points. More than 70 juniors, parents, scholars, program leaders, and volunteers celebrated the official kickoff of the Foundation’s G.A.M.E. Club program last week. The event was held at Maggie Hathaway GC in South Los Angeles and featured a BBQ, music, golf contests, teambuilding and presentations by youth leaders. The juniors in this program have been individually nominated to participate in this pilot program based on their continual involvement in both golf and education with the SCGA Foundation as well as a golf and life skills based junior program.

The 2011 Los Angeles Chubb Charity Challenge was held last week at Hacienda CC with 13 teams competing in a 2 Low Net format tournament. Teams competed to earn money for their respective charities, with the winning team set to advance to the final round at the Ritz-Carlton, Naples, FL where they will compete for a share of over $560,000.
The SCGA Foundation competed in the event and despite not winning, walked away with $1,450 to support the education and character development of Southern California youth through golf.

Approximately 100 members of the club joined Foundation scholar Gary Nelson for lunch and golf, as the scholar hit balls for the club in a par 3 contest.

More than 40 people gathered Thursday for an SCGA Foundation Open House at the SCGA Offices to learn about volunteer opportunities and other ways to assist the foundation. The program included a reception followed by a presentation.
