FORE MAGAZINE

THE OFFICIAL JOURNAL OF THE
SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA GOLF ASSOCIATION

Award-winning FORE Magazine is a bimonthly, four-color publication mailed to the home of each SCGA member as part of their membership. In addition to its six regular issues, FORE publishes travel supplements throughout the year covering such areas as Hawaii, Arizona and the Coachella Valley. In conjunction with the Southern California Section of the PGA, the SCGA also publishes the annual Southern California Directory of Golf -- Southern California's most complete golf reference book -- which is also mailed to SCGA members as part of their annual membership fee.

On the Cover:

In the Heart of the Valley:
El Caballero Country Club has hosted the region's best juniors, the LPGA Tour and, every other year, seekers of the U.S. Open dream. Now the SCGA Amateur pays its first visit.

SCGA President Paul Meshekow, a member at hosting El Cab, gives a lighthearted twist to the speed-of-play issue.

From the Pro's Viewpoint:
A hole-by-hole capsule of El Caballero's challenges; and an introduction to head golf professional Mark Taylor. 

The Deserts are Team Territory:
Antelope Valley, Silver Lakes and Mission Hills take SCGA Team Play championships. 

Surprise Winner; Minor Upset:
Westlake's Brian van Heel came out of the pack with a 68 and beat a strong CIF-SCGA Championship field by a stroke. Palm Desert turned back San Marcos High's attempt at a repeat team title. 

Start of Something Good:
California's community colleges began a new post-season schedule whereby The SCGA Members' Club becomes a host course each year. College of the Canyons and Ryan Ressa of College of the Desert claimed state crowns. 

South Rises For California Amateur Week:
Southern California scored a sweep, including a stunning win by Las Vegas resident and Indian Wells GR member Eddie Heinen in the CGA Amateur championship. Ted Lyford of Redlands won the senior title in record-breaking fashion and both Southern teams scored decisive victories -- the seniors by a s 27-stroke margin.

San Diego CC to host Pacific Coast Amateur Championship:
90 of the nation's finest amateur golfers will gather at one of the SCGA's oldest and most prestigious clubs. The SCGA will be represented by three teams.
