CCCAA Southern Regional Championship

College of the Desert wins the 2011 CCCAA Southern Regional Championship at Bermuda Dunes; Andrew Perez (COD) is medalist

 

 

    

BERMUDA DUNES – College of the Desert, based out of Palm Desert, captured the 2011 CCCAA Southern Regional Championship at Bermuda Dunes CC Monday.  The Roadrunners finished at 36 over as a team to capture the title by nine strokes over Glendale College.  In addition to COD and Glendale, Long Beach City College and Santiago Canyon College also advanced to the State Community College Championships to be held at Kings CC in Hanford, CA next week.  

Despite winds gusting to 25-30 miles per hour throughout the day, Andrew Perez of College of the Desert captured medalist honors with an even par score of 144 over the 36 holes. His morning round of 68 was the low round of the championship and one of only two rounds under par for the day. In addition to the four teams advancing to the championship, the low six individuals who were not on a qualifying team also advance to the state championship.  

The 36-hole championship was held on the Classic nines at Bermuda Dunes CC, which is one of the host sites for the PGA Tour’s Bob Hope event in January.
