As part of the SCGA's Membership Season, we are checking in with SCGA Members and learning what they find most valuable about their SCGA Membership. Below is Part 1 of our Member Spotlight series.
Scott Bobbins is addicted to the game of golf. Having started playing at the age of 10, the SCGA Member has spent a significant amount of time on the course, including playing a Southern California Golf Association high of 359 rounds thus far in 2011, giving Bobbins 359 rounds in just 276 days!
“I was a weekend player most of my life; living on the east coast and working full-time made it difficult to play more," said Bobbins. "But when I moved to California in 1996 it enabled me to play more. Unfortunately, being a victim of corporate cut backs, I found myself with far too much idle time. While searching for work remains my primary focus, golf provides a great outlet where I can temporarily replace `real life stress' with the issues we encounter on the course."
Bobbins, an 8.9 Handicap, plays the majority of his rounds at his home course of Robinson Ranch. Having paid for unlimited golf at Robinson Ranch, Bobbins is not too anxious to reach into his pocket to play elsewhere, but finances aside he loves playing at his home course.
“Robinson Ranch has two championship courses that provide all the challenge one could ask for,” he said. “In addition, the people are terrific, from General Manager Rick Smith to Head Pro Larry Atlas and all the way down. I am treated as well as you could imagine being treated at any club.”
Bobbins has been an SCGA member for more than 10 years, and finds it beneficial to be able to play with a Handicap Index.
“It allows people of different skill levels to compete on a level playing field,” he said.
