9 Reasons Why Every Woman Should Have A Handicap Index

Don’t Be A Guesser

We all play by the Rules of golf, and for some, it’s gospel! But without a Handicap Index, can you really call it by the book? You can know every drop policy and competition procedure, but if you’re just keeping score au naturel, you’re cheating yourself by not keeping a Handicap. By keeping an Index and posting scores regularly, you’re earning strokes that improve your scores, and you get to experience the game as it was meant to be played.

Want to expand your golf expertise? Learn about our top Handicap Index questions and quiz yourself to become a handicap expert!

One Coffee A Month

If you’re anything like us, it’s hard to turn down that $5 cup of coffee. How can we say no to that grande caramel macchiato? Here’s how: put that $5 per month towards a game you love way more than that sweet, overpriced coffee or a slice of banana bread. Your health and golf game will thank you!

Look and Play The Part

We’ve all done it – the outfit is laid out the night before, and the golf bag is stocked with sunscreen, ball markers, tees, the works. But in order to truly complete looking the part, is to play the part with GHIN Number in hand.

Improve Your Game For Real

We’re all on a mission to improve our game, right? Aside from the obvious good times with friends, there’s a reason why we book golf lessons and attend instruction clinics. Instead of “thinking” you’re improving, a Handicap Index is a great way to measure your progress with accurate numerical data that you can share with your friends!

Infiltrate Golf Functions At Work

Golf in business go hand in hand, and for women, it’s hard to break up the Good ‘Ol Boys Club when it comes to golf events at work. But if you stroll into the office and talk Handicap, now you’re speaking their language. You can compare indexes, and who knows, maybe yours is lower than others! If not, any golfer will be impressed that you’re tracking your game and just like at work, golf means business too. Either way, you’ll be taken more seriously, so prepare for the invites to flood your inbox!

Win MORE Prizes

Being “official” not only opens doors to more playing opportunities, but that also means you’re getting a fair shot at winning those beloved tee prizes and gift cards. By establishing a Handicap, you’re exposed to the vast, beautiful world of net AND gross events where it’s truly anyone’s game.

(P.S. Most tournaments won’t let you win prizes without an official USGA/GHIN Handicap Index. You can read more about why GHIN is the most widely-accepted Handicap Index here.)

Don’t Be Awkward At Charity Tournaments

We all play in plenty of these. They’re for a great cause, and they’re loads of fun. But being that person who “guestimates” how they measure up for the rest of the field makes things complicated and unfair for everyone, especially you. Be a friend for life and come prepared with the extra strokes you deserve.

Play With The Dream Team

Now, you may be familiar with team competitions, but with a Handicap it’s a totally different ball game. Instead of fighting for the one woman in your group of girlfriends with D1 College history, all bets are off! You no longer have to politely turn down an offer from your best friend who’s still learning the game – that high Handicap is a hot commodity because she’s the one with the most strokes on her side.

Stop Letting The Boys Win

ESPECIALLY if your spouse or family members have Handicap Indexes, it’s only fair to you to level the playing field and really show ‘em who’s boss. With an Index, you’re just as good as the guys, so give yourself the shot you deserve! Nobody wants the inevitable bragging to follow you all the way home and at the dinner table – unless it’s coming from you, of course. #GirlPower
