1. Show up to the first tee as a solo
Okay, psycho. Just kidding – but it’s a risky play. You never know who you’ll meet. You could magically be paired with your soul mate or…. you could be stuck with a total weirdo, a mute or even worse, someone who doesn’t shut up!
2. Scout at the driving range
Pace the driving range like Bill Belichick during a tight fourth quarter looking for someone you can relate to. Whether it’s the person topping shot after shot or the guy/gal who brought the alignment rods and trackman – approach with confidence. “Hey, wanna play this weekend?” Not that awkward, right?
3. Slide into the DMs
Search #golf on social media and just go for it! The opportunities are endless, it’s basically like shooting fish in a barrel. Trust us on this, people LOVE getting unsolicited golf invites from strangers on Instagram. It’s a modern day rite of passage!
4. Go to your nearest Roger Dunn
Head directly for the putting green with your best one-liners. “Mallet, huh? I prefer a blade. My name’s Tyler.” Pick up a new headcover and hopefully come away with some new golfing buddies too.
5. Hit into the group in front of you
It’s so crazy that it might just work! Obnoxiously ripping drives into the group in front of you may not seem like the best way to go about meeting people but maybe they just get sick of it and invite you to play. They’ll at least be out of harms way.
6. Bust into a work meeting and pose the question
Your company just suffered through its worst Q3 in over 15 years. All the executives are gathering in the conference room. What better time to interrupt and ask if anyone has golfing plans this weekend!
7. Pester your friends
This always works, doesn’t it? You want to do something – they clearly don’t. So what do you do? You ask them the same question every 10 minutes. It’s like the kid in the backseat of the car – “Are we there yet?” Finally they’ll agree just to put an end to the madness.
We hope you don’t actually take any of these seriously and rather just log onto the SCGA Club Finder to find the perfect group to play with. It’ll be a lot less stressful.
