Christmas is a family time of year and for many families it is the most special day of the year too.
So, what better time to plan a family golfing trip than Christmas.
For those of you that live in colder climates, Southern California is the perfect destination to spend your Christmas holidays with a plethora of world class golf resorts and myriad of golf courses to choose from.
Planning the holiday can be tricky, but this guide will hopefully make the process a little less stressful.
Choose Your Destination
The first step to planning any holiday is choosing your destination, you have probably already decided that South California is the right destination now all you have to do is decide if you want to stay within a resort or have a little more freedom and rent a property or a separate hotel away from the constraints of some resorts.
Hotels are abundant and range from the very basic to very high end establishments and the cost of the hotels varies immensely depending on the style of the hotel that select.
Bear in mind that if you stay at a hotel, you will probably have to pay a premium for your Christmas meal as this will be an additional extra. Don’t forget that it’s also much easier now to rent properties for vacations too.
Choose the Golf Courses
The second step is to choose the golf courses that you want to play and checking out whether there are any special deals for two ball specials or for playing on Christmas day.
There are over 100 different courses to choose from in Southern California, so it could take a while to decide where you want to go. I always recommend to my friends to base the number of rounds on the number of days that they wish to spend on the course. For some this will be everyday so consider the traveling times so that you are not caught out.
In Orange County, a must see is the Pelican Hills Resort, 54 holes of golf that will change the way you play forever. The design of the North and South Ocean courses is sublime and this would be one resort to stay on and admire the masterful designs.
In the San Diego Area? You must try arguably the best municipal golf course in the country, Torrey Pines the stage for one of the most dramatic US Opens in recent times.
Palm Springs is an area dotted with quality courses to suit every budget, a particularly nice resort is Indian Wells with the stunning Clive Clark designed Celebrity course and the John Fought designed players course which incorporates design ideas from many of the world’s top courses.
These are not the only courses and resorts that you could try, but all would make the perfect setting for that perfect Christmas Holidays golf break. Just remember to take all the necessary Christmas presents with you and you´ll be assured to have a wonderful and Merry Christmas.
