If you play golf, you already know that you meet people from all walks of life on the course. Whether you are playing at a local public course or a private country club, you will meet all kinds of people.
Let’s take a look at some of the benefits of playing golf with strangers:
You Never Know Who You’ll Meet
Playing golf in a place like Southern California is amazing because you could play with anyone out of millions of people. Your life could change in an instant based on who you are playing golf with. I once had my own experience playing at a local public course that I will never forget.
When I was 18 years old, a buddy and I went over to Woodley Lakes Golf Course in Van Nuys to play a round of golf. We got done hitting range balls and made our way towards the first tee. As we walked closer, we could see a group of people gathering around a golf cart and we had no idea what was going on. As we got closer, we saw that sitting in that golf cart, was none other than Jim Brown. We then realized that we had the same tee time and would be playing with one of the greatest athletes of all time.
Let that serve as a little reminder that you can meet just about anyone on a golf course.
Learn New Things
One of the best things about playing with new people is that you can learn new ways to improve your game. Golf is great because there isn’t one way of doing it correctly. There are so many different philosophies and opinions about the golf swing that no one can be wrong.
Opportunities Outside of Golf
The best part about golf is that you get to network and socialize with all kinds of people. The person you get paired up with could be the your next business partner or even your significant other! My advice is to be friendly and learn about the other people who you get paired up with. You never know what can happen.
Provides Good Entertainment
There’s nothing better than a good club toss and rage. The chances of seeing someone rage on the course go up as you play more and more golf. People cope with situations differently than others and some people just have to let off some steam. It should provide you with a good laugh.
Focus on Your Game
A great benefit of playing with strangers is that it gives you a chance to focus on your own game. Usually if you are heading out with your buddies to play, it can get a bit distracting and your focus will fade as the round goes on. When you play with a stranger, there’s no requirement that you have to talk with them after each shot. You can even not say a word to them for the entire round other than to compliment a good shot or thank them for picking up a club.
You Aren’t Alone
One of the most obvious benefits of playing golf with strangers is that you aren’t playing by yourself. Golfing alone is one of the most boring things you can do, so having other people to join you is a whole lot better. Playing golf with other people will help you to stop going through the motions and focus more on the round.
Great Stories to Tell
Playing golf with strangers will always give you a great story to tell people. You might be a witness to someone setting a course record or on the flip side, someone who whiffs on their tee shot every now and then.
