As Southern California golfers continue to thrive on the world’s biggest stages, we’ll keep you updated. Check back each week for a roundup of the weekend’s happenings and how your favorite players are fairing.
Two-time SCGA Amateur Champion Beau Hossler was grabbing headlines in the world of golf:
The Web.com TOUR was in the steamy Southwest for the Utah Championship.
Xander Schauffele (-12) shot a blistering final-round 65 to jump up the leaderboard to finish third, his best career Web.com finish.
The third place finish propelled Schauffele 40 spots up on the Web.com TOUR money list. Those golfers are fighting for a spot in the Top 25, where at year’s end they would receive a PGA TOUR card. Currently, SoCal golfers Brian Campbell and Max Homa fall inside that Top 25.
John Mallinger was in the top-10 heading into the weekend, but a third-round 77 dropped him into a T-45.
Charlie Wi, Brandon Hagy and John Merrick all missed the CUT.
Bhavik Patel withdrew during the second round.
The Champions TOUR was overseas, crowning The Senior Open Championship at the treasured Carnoustie in Scotland.
Mark O’Meara (-1) had a solid showing, finishing T-18, even after two weekend rounds in the mid-70s.
Duffy Waldorf (E) finished T-23.
SCGA Hall of Famer Craig Stadler (+5) finished T-72.
The Mackenzie TOUR was at Whitewater GC in Thunder Bay, Ontario for the Staal Foundation Open
Manav Shah (-13) went super low, firing a final-round 64 to finish T-4.
Andrea Lee, 17, of Hermosa Beach continued an impressive last 12 months of golf, which has included a win at the inaugural Women’s Southern California Amateur Championship at The Los Angeles CC last summer and a victory at SCGA Junior’s ANA Junior Inspiration, which earned her a spot in the Spring’s LPGA Major. This week, she cruised through both stroke and match play at the U.S. Girls Junior Amateur Championship before losing in the final match.
