Playing golf in the summer heat is only for the brave, but you can use this to your advantage to get some great deals in Southern California. Pretty much every course offers twilight and super twilight deals that can save you a lot of money on green fees.
On the other side of that coin are the hidden gems. The courses that seemingly only you and yours know about that are the best deals in town.
Lucky for you, there are dozens of great courses in Southern California that fit the bill. There are some great deals to be had for players of all skill levels with all types of expectations. It doesn’t matter who you are, you’ll always be able to find a deal for you.
Local Municipal Courses
The first piece of advice is to get out and play your local municipal golf courses. City owned courses usually offer the best deals and are very cost friendly to residents of the county. Local muni’s always have the best twilight and super twilight deals.
Golf Lesson Packages
The summer is a great time to work on your game and take a lesson or two. Most courses will offer a lesson package where you get a certain number of lessons and rounds of golf for a fixed price. This is a great deal to take advantage of because it locks in the price of your green fees. You will also end up meeting people who are taking these golf lessons and can enjoy some golf with new friends.
Ask About Replay Value
Replaying a course can be a great value if you are up for another round during the summer heat. Some courses will offer a replay value that is sometimes half off of the original green fee in order to get you back out on the course. Make sure you ask someone in the pro shop when you arrive or call ahead of time so you can plan your day of golf.
Beat the Heat
The number one reason why golfers don’t play in the summer is because of the heat. Make sure to avoid this by heading out early to get ahead of everyone else. For most people this will be tough because of their jobs, but if you have to get that round in there is always that late super twilight round available. Either way, you can find deals for both early and late rounds. Courses will also offer an early bird deal to get you out.
The other large benefit to an early morning round is that it allows you to enjoy the round at your own pace. You can get a round of 18 in at around 3 hours and 15 minutes and it will be a lot better than waiting behind people every shot in the afternoon.
Check out Par 3 Courses or 9 Hole Courses
Playing par 3 courses, executive courses or 9 hole courses are a great way to get introduced to the game and save some money. They are quick and only take up a couple of hours instead of the usual four-hour round. You can also walk these short courses, which gives you an added fitness bonus.
As always, make sure you stay hydrated and always bring sunscreen with you out to the course. Call up some friends and go have some fun out on the links this summer!
