There are so many golf gadgets and everyday items that you can add to your golf bag. What you put in your golf bag also depends on whether you walk the course or you ride in a golf cart. Here are some things that you should always have in your golf bag.
You don’t always need to pack your rain gear, which includes umbrellas and headcovers, in your bag. If you know the weather will be nice out, then leave it in the car and forget about it.
So Many Pockets
Most golf bags today have more pockets than you can deal with. Don’t worry about filling them all and just use the ones that are easy to access. Make sure to put your phone, keys and/or wallet into the lined valuables pocket of your bag.
Most people have a good amount of golf balls in their bag because they use them for chipping or putting, but you don’t always have to bring them on the course. A good rule of thumb is to bring as many balls as your handicap. For example, if you are a 9 handicap then bring 9 golf balls.
Always pack a writing tool whether it be a sharpie or a pencil. You never know when you may have to mark your golf ball or write something down.
Having a clean towel can be a lifesaver during a round. If you are walking and you accidentally step in a puddle of water it may splash up and drench your lower body. Not having a towel to wipe yourself down could ruin your round. If you grab some food at the turn, a towel can come in handy if you don’t favor carrying a bunch of napkins around.
Ball Marker, Divot Tool, Tees
These are the essential items that you must have and are easy enough to carry around. Tees should be your biggest priority because they can be used as a ball marker and a divot tool, so make sure you have plenty of tees.
With today’s technology, it allows us to enjoy golf more and have more fun during the round. If you are unable to afford a rangefinder, some courses offer rentals in the golf shop and some may have golf carts with GPS. Make sure you use these to your advantage because it can speed up your round and make you play better as well.
Snacks and Beverages
You never know when the beverage cart will come around to you, so it is better to be prepared for the round. Grab a couple of snacks from the grill or stop off at a store before the round. Water is also a must.
This is an obvious one for us out here in Southern California and on the West Coast, but you should always have sunscreen in your bag. Even on the east coast and the midwest where the sun isn’t always shining, those UV rays can go through the clouds, so make sure to have in just in case.
You don’t need the whole kit of course, but just the essentials. Grab a few band-aids, a tweezer, ibroprufen and a couple of bandages. Anything can happen on the course and it’s better to be prepared.
Extra Gloves and Socks
Gloves and socks are the two items that can get saturated pretty quickly with sweat or water. Just stick a couple extras in your golf bag and move on, they won’t add any extra weight.
