Bringing a date to play a round of golf can be risky business for obvious reasons. However, there are ways to haveĀ a date on the course where both parties can enjoy the moment.
Here are some ways to enjoy a round of golf with your date:
Take it Easy
Whether you are the better golfer or not, you can’t act like you are out there trying to win the Masters on a Sunday afternoon. Don’t take 10 minutes to hit every shot and don’t worry about counting every shot you hit.
To go along with this, don’t get overly excited when the other person hits a good shot or bad shot. If you are too encouraging it can be seen as a bit condescending. Just be yourself on the course and leave your competitive juices at home.
Treat Everyone Like a Normal Person
It’s very important to treat someone as if they are your peer. You aren’t obligated to do everything out on the course, just treat them with respect. When you finish a hole for example, don’t feel like you have to run out of the way to go grab the flag stick to put it back in the hole. If your date is closer to it, let them take care of it.
Bring Cash
The worst thing you can do is not bring cash. It’s safe to say that not tipping someone in a service industry is a quick way to end the date fast.
Go Easy on the Phone
The reason you are out playing golf with your date is because you want to get to know them better. Golf is one of the best activities to show who you really are. Don’t spend the entire round with your face in your phone. Occasionally checking up on your text messages are fine, but don’t overdo it.
Bring Food and Drink
The last thing you need is to be dying of thirst out on the course. Always make sure to have a couple extra bottles of water in the golf bag whenever you go out with a date. It shows that you are thinking ahead and actually care a little bit about the activity.
Try Mini Golf
Bringing someone out on the golf course for the first time can be a bit overwhelming, so don’t be afraid to head to the local putt-putt course. It takes the full swing out of the game and keeps it simple yet challenging. Playing a quick round on the putt-putt course will also be much, much quicker.
Don’t be Butch Harmon
No one likes to be constantly criticized about what they are doing. You don’t have to offer advice after every single swing or shot on the course. It gives you a bad look.
