Course Rating Overview

The Course Rating department is responsible for the rating and measurement of every golf course which is a member of the association. There is no charge to SCGA member clubs for these services.

The United States Golf Association mandates that golf courses be rated no less than once every 10 years. The SCGA tries to accomplish this task every eight years. Clubs which have undergone major renovations should contact the association to see if a re-rating is necessary sooner than the scheduled time period.

The department should also be contacted if a temporary rating needs to be issued for construction on the course, storm damage, etc. The Department works closely with UC Riverside Turfgrass Research Advisory Committee to strengthen the communication between UCR and turfgrass organizations by identifying researchable issues and implementing focused research to answer current and emerging issues. Most importantly they are able to provide an objective resource for decision makers regarding the public perception of the value of turfgrass. For questions regarding course rating please contact the Rating department.
