Points Program

The SCGA points program recognizes golfers who perform well in SCGA, CGA, USGA and other selected tournaments. The cumulative Points List is the basis of the Player of the Year and Senior Player of the Year (age 55 and above) honors.

The 2012 Points List

Running concurrently with the Player of the Year and Senior Player of the Year Points Lists will be a 2011 Match Play Points List and a 2011 Senior Match Play Points List.

Match Play lists represent the cumulative totals of the 2011 Player of the Year and Senior Player of the Year contests, plus the current 2012 Player of the Year and Senior Player of the Year lists.

At the conclusion of the 2012 SCGA Amateur Championship (July 20–22, Big Canyon Country Club), the top 32 players on the 2012 Match Play Points List, plus the top 16 Players on the 2012 Senior Match Play Points list, will earn invitations to compete in the SCGA Match Play Championship (date and site TBD).

In the event of a tie for any place on the Match Play Points List, the tie shall be broken based on performance in the 2012 SCGA Amateur Championship. If a tie still exists, we will look at performance in the 2012 California Amateur Championship, followed by the 2012 SCGA Mid-Amateur Championship, followed by a sporting draw.

In the event of a tie for any place on the Senior Match Play Points List, the tie shall be broken based on performance in the 2012 SCGA Senior Amateur Championship. If a tie still exists, we will look at performance in the 2011 California Senior Amateur Championship, followed by the 2011 SCGA Senior Amateur Championship, followed by a sporting draw.

Players can earn points through strong performances in events listed on the Points Distribution lists. The links below provide a complete listing of these tournaments and the point values assigned to each event.

In the event of a tie, each player will earn the maximum points possible. For example, if two players tied for 2nd place at the SCGA Amateur, each player would earn 395 points, the maximum number of points for that position—they would not split the total of 2nd and 3rd place points.

In match play events, players can earn points for qualifying for the championship and for the highest round of match play they reach. To submit an outside event for SCGA Points List consideration, contact the SCGA Rules and Competitions department at (818) 980-3630.

In order to earn SCGA points, players must be amateur golfers who are members of the SCGA at the time of the event in which they accrued points. The USGA’s definition of an amateur golfer is the standard that SCGA uses. Players suspended from SCGA competitions are not eligible to earn points.

To become Player of the Year or Senior Player of the Year, a player must compete in, or attempt to qualify for, at least one of the following championships:

An SCGA “regular player” is an eligible player 54 years of age or younger. An SCGA “senior player” is an eligible player 55 years of age or older. 

To earn points in a senior event, players must have reached their 55th birthday prior to the start of the competition. Players 54 years of age or younger who compete in a senior event will not earn points on either the regular or senior Points Lists with one exception: points earned in any stage of the U.S. Senior Open by a player who is 50–54 will be credited to the regular Player of the Year standings. Likewise, if a senior player earns points for an event that is recognized on the regular Player of the Year list, those points will be applied to the player’s senior standings.

The SCGA Points Lists will also be a tool used to assist in the selection of participants for the Honors Matches, a competition between the SCGA and SCPGA, and the Seaver Cup, a competition between the SCGA and the NCGA.
