HACIENDA HEIGHTS AND DOVE CANYON, Dec. 6 -- Cavin McCall, the club champion at Cottonwood at Rancho San Diego, defeated Daniel Ragsdale from North Ranch Country Club with a par on the fifth playoff hole (hole 18) after tying at even-par 71, to win the 2010 SCGA Tournament of Club Champions at Hacienda CC.

Brad Larsen of Oceanside, the 2010 SCGA Senior Amateur and Senior Match Play champion, as well as 2010 SCGA Senior Player of the Year, defeated James Camione in a playoff at 1-over 71, to win the senior division at Dove Canyon CC.

McCall, a 23-year-old senior at Cal State Dominguez Hills, is a former player and current Assistant Coach of the university's men's golf team, who will graduate in May with a Communications degree. McCall is relatively new to the game, having only played for seven years.

“I’ve been playing well and my hope coming in was to finish in the top 10,”  he said after his round. McCall’s win earns him an exemption into the 112th SCGA Amateur Championship, July 8-10, 2011 at San Gabriel Country Club and the SCGA’s inaugural Public Links Championship (formerly the PLGA Amateur Championship), March 25-27 at Brookside Golf Club. McCall participated in the 2009 SCGA Amateur Championship at Wilshire Country Club, missing the cut by three strokes, and will look to improve upon that experience and his playoff win today.

Larsen defeated Camione on the first playoff hole to take his title, having swept the SCGA senior individual events of 2010. Larsen is also a past SCGA Mid-Amateur champion, having taken a 15-year tournament hiatus before winning his first senior title earlier in the year at Santa Ana CC. Larsen is the only player to win both the SCGA Mid-Amateur and Senior Amateur.

This was the 36th playing of the SCGA’s end-of-the-year event for club champions with indexes of 2.4 or less. Hacienda GC proved once again to be a great championship test with no one in the field breaking par and the average score at 78.9. McCall is a huge fan of the course, having played it a few times as a teen and recently for a practice round.

“I love this course, everything about it," McCall said. "The layout, the fantastic condition it is in, the staff and members are friendly, it’s one of the best private clubs in L.A.”

Rounding out the champion flight top five were Ragsdale and four players that shot a 1-over par 72: three-time champion John Pate, Kent Wiese, Chad Quilausing and 16-year old Reilly McMahaon. Defending champion Jeff Coburn finished with a 6-over par 77.

Top-five finishers in the senior division include Camione, Mike Wilcock (72), Ed Rosenbloom (73) and past SCGA Senior Amateur champion Clark Heath (74).

Next year’s Tournament of Club Champions event is scheduled for December 5, 2011 at Newport Beach Country Club the Senior Tournament of Club Champions is scheduled for Seacliff Country Club.
