The SCGA Youth on Course Scholarship Program recently benefitted from a $15,000 donation, made possible by the inaugural COPi Cup Pro-Am. Hosted by SCGA Youth on Course Board Member Phil Frengs and underwritten by his company, The COPi Companies, the event included five teams in an interclub competition.
"The idea of the tournament was to combine, camaraderie, competition and charity,” said Frengs. “Our wonderful participants came through for us, with friendship, great competition and generosity to help the kids in their educational pursuits."
North Ranch, Hillcrest, Palos Verdes Santa Ana and the Tennessee All-Stars were the competing teams, which each contributed $1,000 to the scholarship fund. SCGA Youth on Course Executive Director Kevin Gigax was on hand at the tournament dinner to give an overview on Youth on Course programs, specifically highlighting the recent successes of SCGA Youth on Course Scholar Kristin Grimes. Tournament participants donated an addition $5,000 during the dinner, an amount that was then matched by Frengs.
