Previously only available to military personnel, Bayonet Black Horse in Seaside recently opened to public play, and with a two-year, massive renovation and property expansion project in the works, the historic layouts will continue to provide a good test of golf for players in the CGA Net Amateur Match Play Championships.
General Robert B. McClure built Bayonet on the land that the Army trained on -- Fort Ord -- in 1954. Bayonet was named after the 7th Infantry "Light Fighter" Division (nicknamed the "Bayonet Division.") It has been said that General McClure was a "left-handed" golfer with a fade, and managed to effectively reduce his handicap with a little creative architecture in the design of Bayonet. Due to its popularity after opening, the facility built another championship golf course, Black Horse, a decade later. Read more about Bayonet Black Horse HERE.
