Defending champion Josh Anderson of Murrieta will head the South team and former two-time NCGA Player of the Year Randy Haag of Burlingame will lead the North squad in the battle for possession of the Roger Lapham Challenge Cup concurrent with the first two rounds of the 97th California Amateur Championship June 16 and 17 at Lakeside Golf Club and Oakmont Country Club.
In addition to Anderson, the South team will include:
• Three-time SCGA Amateur runner-up Brian Edick of Valencia
• Last year's California Amateur runner-up Joe Greiner of Saugus
• 1999 California Amateur champion Tim Hogarth of Northridge
• Defending SCGA Amateur champion Brett Kanda of Glendale;
• Keith Kinsel of Glendale, who - like Kanda - as a member at Oakmont CC
In addition to Haag, the NCGA team will include:
• Recently crowned NCGA Senior champion Jeff Burda of Modesto
• Ryan Hallisey of Granite Bay, the 2007 NCGA Amateur champion
• Scott Hardy of Pleasant Hill, the St. Mary's College golf coach and 2007 NCGA Public Links champion
• Martin Trainer of Castlewood
• Taylor Travis of Freemont
The five of six scores in each of the first two rounds count for the team total. The SCGA has won the last two years and holds a 12-6 lead since 1990 when the current stroke-play format began.
